AMHERST, N.Y. -- Nearly 20 ŷ��AV College nursing students helped educate South Buffalo residents on healthy living at a Community Health Fair held Nov. 14 in the Seneca-Babcock Community Center.

Under the supervision of ŷ��AV nursing faculty, students discussed various health topics with area residents, including exercise and stress management, nutrition on a budget, oral care, mental health, and infection control and flu vaccines. Children’s activities included basic yoga, instructions on making a smoothie, and a book reading that focused on healthy lifestyles. Flu shots were also provided by Tops Friendly Markets.

The Community Health Fair was co-sponsored by ŷ��AV’s Paul A. Saffrin Center for Sustainability and Civic Engagement and the Nursing Department, and Senator Tim Kennedy.

“The health education information provided by our nursing students is a valuable resource and helps to promote healthy living in the Seneca Babcock community,” said Kristen Luppino-Gholsten, director of the Saffrin Center. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the local community and to gain skills and experience that will benefit them in the field.”

Also on Nov. 14, a dozen nursing students participated in a Community Health Fair at the Mattina Health Center on Niagara Street.
